Designed to maximize wellbeing during drive time, the Mercedes-Benz “Fit and Healthy” concept adds a variety of new systems to a current S-Class sedan. “Your car should be a fitness machine,” says Ola Källenius, head of group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development. Specially designed seats with built-in massage functions are made out of flexible materials that move with the body to alleviate fatigue. Heart-rate sensors on the steering wheel can help drivers know whether they’re stressed out, and a wearable wristband called the Health Watch measures users’ vital signs and shares data with the car. Mercedes-Benz engineers say this technology can also help to prevent future accidents by detecting medical emergencies such as a loss of consciousness. (mbusa.com)
